Painted Surfaces
Suggested Preparation
Surface must be clean, dry and free of wax, grease, oil, plasticiser, loose paint or old adhesive.
Remove old adhesive by washing with solution of 2 cups household ammonia per gallon of water.
Check for unsound paint and remove.
Existing mould or mildew must be removed by washing with solution of 2 cups household bleach per 4 Litres of water.
Unpainted Drywall
Prep-A-Wall will seal surface to prevent uneven paste absorption, bubbling and loose seams.
It will protect sheetrock from damage when wallcovering is removed.
After hanging new wallcovering, wait 5 weeks before removing.
New Plaster
Wait at least 90 days for new plaster to cure.
Remove all dust with a tack cloth.
Apply two coats 4 hours apart if surface has skim coat plaster finish.
Painted Surfaces
Prep-A-Wall is ideal for all painted surfaces in sound condition.
If paint rubs off onto a wet rag after vigorously rubbing, there is poor paint adhesion.
Remove paint by washing with Sugar Soap detergent solution.
Let dry at least four hours before hanging.
Note: Newly applied emulsions must cure 14 days before priming.
Gloss / Semi-Gloss Paint
No sanding or de-glossing needed. Paint must be in sound condition.
Existing Wallcoverings
May be applied over sound existing wallcoverings.
Remove old wallcoverings, only if edges or seams are lifting.
For vinyls, wash with mineral (white) spirits instead of ammonia solution.
Apply primer and let dry 4 hours.
Check for colour bleed-through.
If metallic ink or color bleed- through exists, seal with Seal Lock, then prime with Prep-A-Wall.
Porous old wallpapers must be removed or sealed, then prime with Prep-A-Wall.
